6/28/2023 0 Comments The pink suit by nicole mary kelby![]() The Pink Suit is a fascinating look at politics, fashion, and some of the most glamorous women in history, seen through the eyes of a young woman caught in the midst of an American breed of upstairs/downstairs class drama. ( From the publisher. In November 1963 the world was shocked by the assassination of President John F Kennedy, but the picture which brought home. And when the pink suit becomes infamous, Kate's already fragile world-divided between the excess and artistry of Chez Ninon and the traditional values of her insular neighborhood-threatens to rip apart. While the two never met, Kate knew every tuck and pleat needed to create the illusion of the First Lady's perfection. Much of her wardrobe, including the pink suit, came from the New York boutique Chez Ninon where a young seamstress, an Irish immigrant named Kate, worked behind the scenes to meticulously craft the memorable outfits. On November 22, 1963, the First Lady accompanied her husband to Dallas, Texas dressed in a pink Chanel-style suit that was his favorite. ![]() A novel based on the true story behind Jacqueline Kennedy's iconic pink suit. ![]()

It is soul crushing, heartbreaking, and downright ugly. Long Shot is just plain and simple perfection. ‘If you were mine, Iris, there would be no doubt what position you’d hold in my life. Kennedy Ryan took her time researching what she was about to write about and it showed. The underlying theme, content and meaning is the true star here. In honesty, it needs to be said that this is one book to NOT miss. If you don’t read any other book, this year at least pick this one. Is it a forbidden love setting? Yes, but those are just categories to place this book. There is absolutely no way I can describe how incredibly powerful and meaningful this book is. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lipka's primary focus is on official Roman religion, and thus he has little to say about popular or private conceptions of Roman gods, and thus little to say about much of the population of Rome. Using John Scheid's 1 four-part thematic structure of Roman religion-space, time, ritual, actors (whom Lipka calls "personnel)", and adding his own two, functions and iconography-to focus entirely on how these constituent concepts can be used to define how the gods were conceived by Romans, the author attempts to create a "more general concept of 'god'" (8) than has previously been attempted. His ambition is "to fill a gap that appears to have existed already in Wissowa's seminal work (which took for granted the naming of the concept of "god") and was from there bequeathed to modern approaches of 'new historians' and 'sociologists' alike" (9). Series Synopsis & Main Characters Better yet, go watch the series yourself. If you want to do horror, is your story really Gothic with a horror disguise? Is it Gothic horror, and if so, how much is it one or the other ?īefore talking more about the Gothic elements in "Hemlock Grove," it's time to give a short synopsis of the series, as presented in Season One. ![]() There are other similar questions the writer should also ask as well. The two genres are closely related but remain totally different animals. When anyone starts to write, direct or produce "horror" stories, or horror-type like "Hemlock Grove," one of the most helpful questions he or she can ask is "Am I really doing a horror story?" This may sound like a strange question, but actually there is much confusion nowadays between horror and Gothic storylines. 6 Gothic Tropes & Storylines in the Series. ![]()
6/28/2023 0 Comments Damage Control by Lynn Van Dorn![]() ![]() Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance-passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions-and to let them evolve. ![]() Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. The love story-while a huge draw and constantly present-is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. I'm often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. ![]() 6/28/2023 0 Comments Poet anderson books![]() ![]() Nightmares, Poet Anderson will have to sacrifice the Dreamscape… And now, demonic shadow creatures are possessing the spirits ofĭreamers and using their bodies to enter the Waking World.Ĭan no longer avoid his destiny. Questions of class and gender and the delights and limitations of relationships across all these groups of difference were kept complex, when it is so easy to write a feel-good version where none of that matters. The book also tried to honestly and respectfully portray the diversity of the people who made up early Australia instead of working under a homogenised whiteness. There were systems of injustice that made this unnecessary famine and the book was upfront about that. ![]() It was also good that the book did not attempt to be apolitical or to individualise the suffering of the characters. ![]() Awful choices had to be made and people were scarred by their choices. The complexity of loyalty and an individual journey I thought were well plotted. I wasn't so keen on the portrayal of the theatre people's relationships but up until then I had thought Murray had done very well to balance horrors and devastation with moments of hope and the relationships that feed survival. ![]() |
